About Us

A year after heavy losses for Democrats in the 2004 general elections, members of College Democrats at Syracuse University came together to found Citrus Political Action Committee. The PAC was born under the premise to involve young people in the political process in every way possible to maximize the outcomes for Democrats in future elections, in Syracuse and elsewhere. We believe too much is at stake for our country, our friends and family, and ourselves to stand on the sidelines.

Since 2005 we have worked on Senator Hillary Clinton’s senate re-election campaign, Dan Maffei’s 2006 bid and successful 2008 election to Congress, and State Senator Dave Valesky’s 2006 campaign. We have also staffed events for Senators Clinton and Schumer, as well as for former DNC Chair and current candidate for Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe (a Syracuse native). We hosted a debate for the 2007 Onondaga County Executive race.

As November approaches we look forward to campaigning vigorously for the Democratic nominee for Syracuse Mayor and other local Democratic candidates in the 2009 cycle.

We also are committed to raising awareness within the Syracuse University student body on important issues to the progressive agenda. This year we are focused on improving student recycling practices. We will work to better inform students on this issue and support policies which would enact stronger recycling programs.

We recognize that elections have consequences. To achieve the future that we want we must act. The world doesn’t have a shortage of talkers. We need more doers. And we in Citrus PAC aim to be the doers – the change-makers – today and tomorrow.

Citrus PAC is a legally filed political action committee under the Federal Elections Commission (FEC).
